Ghanaian award-winning Dancehall/Reggae artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale, adds to his investment portfolio with the launch of a ride-hailing service tagged as Shaxi. The business moniker is a coinage of ‘Shatta’ and ‘Taxi’.

The launch took place on December 8 at Alisa Hotel, North Ridge in Accra, Ghana and was graced by several celebrated personalities. Present at the occasion was Mr Nathan Adisi popularly known as Bola Ray; chief executive of EIB Network, Mr Pius Hadzide; chief executive of National Youth Authority (NYA), Tapanaris Don popularly known as Mr Logic; Chairman Songwriters Association of Ghana, artiste manager Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson popularly known as Bulldog, award-winning broadcaster Serwaa Amihere, Nana Aba Anamoah; general manager of GHOne TV and Starr 103.5 FM, versatile entertainer Kwame Asare Obeng popularly known as A-Plus, among others. According to Shatta Wale, the vision behind the creation of the ride-hailing service is to create a sustainable business platform which focuses on the provision of employment for unemployed Ghanaians.

In an appreciation video, he thanked Ghanaians for their unwavering support as well as team members that helped to bring the project to fruition.

In his words, “Everybody knows the love I have for the youth of Ghana and how I want to see them doing well. I want to see the boys on the streets move from being unemployed and get gainful employment.

“I have always wanted to use the blessing God has given me to make an impact in the society and that is how ‘Shaxi’ dream was born. At the end of the day, we want to make an impact and leave our mark.

“Shaxi is not just Shatta Wale and friends but a Ghanaian project for Ghanaians, so let’s all embrace it as our own to make Ghana better for us.”

He also added that the company was “looking forward to employing a lot more of the female population to encourage and empower women drivers” and that “when we come together, we can do so many things for ourselves.”

Shaxi is the latest ride-hailing service in Ghana and will be competing against similar services such as Uber, Bolt, Yango, etc.

The Shaxi mobile app is now available for iOS on App store and Android on Google Playstore.

Meanwhile, Shatta Wale is gearing up towards the release of his forthcoming project; Gift of God. The project was scheduled to drop last year, but its release has been continually delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
